The Master

It’s only fitting that the master of acting, Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in this exquisite film of the same name by ‘There Will Be Blood’ writer and director, Paul Thomas Anderson.

‘The Master’ is a drama set in the 50’s, about the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “the Master” whose faith-based organization begins to catch on in America, and a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man.

There has been significant controversy as to whether or not the film is loosely based on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s life, seeing as Hoffman does bare a significant physical resemblance to the Scientology founder as well as other common similarities in the film.

Regardless, ‘The Master’ seems to be a definite film to watch, with Philip Seymour Hoffman said to be giving the performance of a lifetime, and for Hoffman, that says quite a great deal.

Other actors to watch for in the film include ‘Enchanted’s Amy Adams, ‘Walk The Line’s Joaquin Phoenix and tv show ‘Enlightened’s Laura Dern.

The rest of the supporting cast is as follows:

  • Ambyr Childers as Elizabeth, Lancaster’s daughter
  • Jesse Plemons as Val Dodd, Lancaster’s son
  • Lena Endre as Mrs. Solstad
  • Rami Malek as Clark, son-in-law of Lancaster Dodd
  • Madisen Beaty as Doris Solstad
  • Fiona Dourif
  • Joshua Close as Wayne
  • W. Earl Brown as Bus
  • David Warshofsky as a detective
  • Patty McCormack
  • Kevin J. O’Connor as Bill White

Killing Them Softly

‘Chopper’ and ‘The Assassination of Jesse James’ writer/director, teams up with Brad Pitt once again in the upcoming crime flick, ‘Killing Them Softly’.

The story follows Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer of the mob who attempts to track down the people who robbed a mob-protected poker game.

A little more serious than the fun antics of  ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, Brad Pitt also stars along side Ray Liotta and ‘The Sopranos’ star, James Gandolfini.

Shot in a dark comedic style, these wonderful actors shine in their complex and often dark characters, especially Pitt, who rarely plays a villainous character.

Killing Them Softly is due for theatrical release on September 21, 2012.
